Heat Pump advice

$

Hello Chaps,

I'm after a little advice from the experts in Heat Pump installation.
I'm in the midst of purchasing a 3 bed semi detached Victorian cottage which currently has no heating and not on mains gas. It does have double glazing and loft insulation to 250mm and the external walls will be insulated to 70-100mm using kingspan or celotex.
My first question is this enough insulation for a Air source heat-pump to run effectively? If not what do you recommend?
I would also like to know what is the heat-pump manufacture of choice with engineers for reliability and ease of use?
And what are the common mistakes people make when having one of these installed?
I've been googling around the internet for answers and most of the info I can get is from manufacturers or the sales people.
Or should I just go for LPG gas or oil and not bother with this heat pump idea.
I have tons of questions but not too many answers on recommned installers and reliability etc..
Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Hello

We are a company based in Ireland who manufacturer a water fuel system. We are looking for distributors in every country apart from Ireland and parts of the UK. We believe this work and what it entails is best suited to transport refrigeration engineers not ruling out normal fridges but you need to know your way around an engine.

We are having unbelievable success with this system we fit it to allot of trucks/generators/tractors/boats/heavy plant and cars basically anything with an engine.
We want now to grow our company and are in a position to start exporting. It is very rewarding work its something different and then there is the financial element

So our aim is to get as many distributors on as possible so we can grow to become a global name. we look forward to hearing from yous and every response will be answered as quickly and to the best of our ability

And remember this product is unique to us and you will not get it anywhere else !

Find the Root Cuase in this situation of Motor Insulation Damage

Hi,
I hope all of you would be in good state of health.
Recently a situation has been reported to me .I thought it better to put it here on this forum for root cause analysis by worthy forum fellows also.
Situation is as under.
  1. Two chillers (TRANE ERTWA model) were in operation when suddenly D-link of electric pole ( 2 out 3 )blew.Electrical personnel were called by chiller operator and they restored d-link wire and electricity was restored.
  2. Right at the time when operator observed heavy sound in compressor then he rushed to breaker of control supply to chillers and turned it off.It is further mentioned that from chiller to electrical pole there is chiller breaker then transformer and its breaker then electric pole. But in first situation only last protection( d-link of pole) actuated.
  3. On restoration of power supply in 3 phase ,operator again started chillers (02 ) again and put load on it.But after one hour again same happened as written above.
  4. Again electrical personnel came and replaced wire of d-link of electrical pole. They were of view that some thing is happening somewhere that is again again blowing it.It may be short circuiting or overloading somewhere .
  5. However they asked to operate one chiller first and see whether same happens or not.If same happens then problem may be in same chiller ,if not then start 2nd chiller and check same. They suspected chiller for possible faults. It is worthy to mention that besides chiller load there is also lighting etc load of building on transformer. Normal load of building is 100 A while chiller draw 300 A usually. But when above incident happened ,one person observed total current on transformer meter to about 1000 A that was abnormally high and caused pole link to blow.
  6. One chiller was operated and link did not blew first and on next day only 2nd chiller was operated and link blew .Then again link was installed and first chiller was operated and again link blew .I mean to say that pole link blew on both chillers .
  7. Electrical personnel were confused and inspected whole line from pole to chiller for possible fault.
  8. Electric motors of chiller compressors were meggered and insulation of 3/4 motors wer found grounded with resistance in kilo ohms. However winding to winding results were satisfactory only winding to ground resistance was too low, motors were almost grounded.Further ,cables in the lines were meggered and found ok.

I request honorable members to analyze above situation for root cause ,please.

Way to Determine if a TXV is Present?..

Is there a way to check or test if a Thermostatic Expansion Valve might be installed on an AC evaporator coil? Replacing an old 3 ton Compressor / Condenser unit with a newer higher efficiency R-22 SEER 14, 36,000 BTU condenser unit. It is not practical to replace the air handler at this particular time. The evaporator coil of this AC split system is built into metal ductwork above a natural gas heating furnace with forced air blower. It is not a proper AC air handler, just an inverted V evaporator coil & drain pan permanently installed into the up-flow air discharge ductwork. Due to expediency and exceedingly poor existing workmanship, there no way to gain access to the coil short of destroying and rebuilding much of that ductwork. Replacing all the homes existing ductwork is a project for another year.

There is no practical way to determine the size, model, installer, manufacturer or other features of that evap. coil, but it was very recently a fully functional part of a working 3 ton central AC split system. R-22 refrigerant has been recovered, system evacuated, purged and sealed with low pressure Nitrogen in preparation to swap that condenser out and change its location. For purposes of recharging the system with R-22 and estimating correct super-heat, is there a non-invasive way to guess if that evaporator is using a fixed orifice or a built-in Thermostatic Expansion Valve?..

Hi there,
new to the forum.
I run a small garage and 3 days ago we got new aircon refill station.
ECK 1800.
we have done 2 cars yesterday and today my mate asked me to rechaerge his aircon.
I connected hoses etc. 2.8kg gas left but the computer tells me theres not enough to refill 525g.
Thats the first problem.
Ok sorted that then during vacuum after about 5 mins smoke start coming from compressor oil container.
At this stage i stoped the process.
Car Air con had a leak anyway as i checked on my old machine.

Any ideas?
Mike

Air conditioning unit not working - Error E2

Hi all,

I came across this forum while looking for a manual or error code explanation for our portable air conditioning unit - it was given to us by a friend a while back and so we do not have any manuals etc ourselves, but we did try the unit in the past and it worked fine - since then it has only been standing in storage until warmer weather - but now it doesn't work - the fan does not seem to even kick in.

We have a High Cool PM97
And the error code we see on the front LED's is E2

If there's any other information you need or something I forgot, let me know and I can do my best to supply it

Look forward to your replies,
Kath

Refrigerant Pipework Dripping

$

Hi All,

I had AC installed around a month ago and the temps coming out are perfect, the problem that I have noticed is that the pipe work looks to have quite a bit of condensation building up which is dripping and corroding the other pipe/spring around it.

Please find attached pics to show what I'm talking about.

Is this something I should get looked at or is there something I should be able to do myself?

Thanks
Jake

Carrier 38/40GXQ with 49' line : factory charge is ok or extra refrigerant?

$

Hi there,

I bought a Carrier 38/40gxq. (With 1/4 & 1/2 refrigerant line)

When the company installed it they said that the factory charge was enough to supply up to 65' of line. (I've got 49' line lenght here)

But i checked on carrier website the installation manual for this unit
(http://dms.hvacpartners.com/docs/100...8-40gx-5si.pdf) and found that they say something else!

If you look page 9 they say that the factory charge is good for 25ft, after that lenght you have to add 0.1oz of refrigerant per extra foot of piping...

It make 2 days that the unit seem to work fine. I tested the heat mode and it seem to work well too...

So this is ok??

Thanks ahead of time for your response!

Can't read PCO log files

$

Hi. I'm new to refrigeration engineering as of a couple of months ago. However, none of the other more senior members here seem to have a grasp on the ins and outs of logging system in 1-tool.

My first time retrieving a log from my pco5+ was a success. I got csv files with all of the public data I requested.

Subsequent tries however don't provide a csv file. Instead, I am given 4 files:

LOGPRJ.lct
PUBVAR.pvt
LOGS.swl
LOGS.BIN

The last two are the ones that clearly have data, judging by their sizes.

PCO Log Converter seems worthless as it only allows me to read csv files, and if I had a csv file I'd be done. There is also the option of "USB log" in the pCO manager. This allows me to select a dwl file and it says "conversion complete" or something to that effect, but again, no csv.

Opening these files in notepad only produces gibberish.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? How do I convert these files to a csv? Better yet, how do I get the pCO5+ to produce a csv?

Thanks!

Gus
