Do you know the difference between a Mandoline and a Mandolin?

I didn't until this afternoon when I read a thread in a different cooking forum.

If you'd have asked me I'd have said an olde world stringed instrument, which would have been partly correct (Mandolin) - but what I didn't know was that there is a French cooking instrument called a Mandoline!! (with the added 'e').

Now, having established that there is a chef's device called a Mandoline - if you'd have asked me to describe what it looks like I would have been equally in the dark.

However, when I saw a picture of a Mandoline I was, like, "I know what that is!!! (but never knew it was called a Mandoline!!!)"

So - do you know what a Mandoline is and looks like? :D

Hello;
We are trying to design a chiller unit using a mitsubishi compressor CZ-126sb-L model. This compressor had been purchased so long ago and we find nothing on the internet about the compressor. Is there anyone have any kind of information, datasheet or manual about this compressor.

Thnx in advance.IMG-20170713-WA0000.jpg

Low subcooling ,high superheating

Hi, I am a R&D engineer at a technical refrigeration firm. The firm decided to use hot-gas defrost system in commercial cabinets. In our system we have a suction line heat exchanger (now only heat heat exchanger). In normal refrigeration loop, the gas which comes from evaporator, enters the heat exchanger and it warms. After that, it enters accumulator, then it reaches the compressor. On the other hand, the liquid(maybe liquid-gas mixture) which comes from condenser, enters the heat exchanger that return gas enters the evaporator. Now we expect, when the liquid cools, the return gas warms. Our goal,we should obtain both subcooling and superheating. However, as the superheating is really high, subcooling is almost never. our subcooling is only 0.5 degree celcius, our superheating is 30 degree celcius. What is the problem. Our fluid is R404a, and 1 kg refrigerant is in our system. Is the refrigerant sufficient?

Geoclima chiller issue

Hi chaps,

I have a Geoclima TMA 2A450A EC turbomiser chiller on site with an issue.
When it initially fires up, it starts the built in water pump. The pump runs for a minute or so and then turns itself off. A fault code comes up saying no water flow. Now, there is indeed flow, and I've checked the flow switch which works fine, in other words it is indeed sending a signal back to the panel to indicate a flow.

The chiller (on it's own) then does the same again. After this happens a few times it just shuts down.

Trouble is, I can find little to no info on this chiller - even a user manual for the controller. The controller just says Microsmart on it and that's it.

Any help appreciated, or where to find a manual.

Sulphuric acid to scrub NH3

We have a fish factory that has asked for NH3 scrubbers for all their ventilation, because they are close to a populated area.

They have had a blowout (faulty service valve that wouldn't close), and it caused a massive evacuation.

I've read about ammonia scrubbers, where there is a water/sulfuric acid mix that is circulated as a mist and when ammonia gas comes in contact with this mix.

All the information I can find is for large industrial process plants, does anyone have any experience with this, or any more information?

Would be much appreciated :)

Question about refrigerant charge

Hi All,

Would you please someone let me know :

Why when temp. of evaporator is low we must charge system with more refrigerant.
For example if a system working on air-conditioning system we must charge system with less refrigerant instead if that system works for example on -15C evaporator temperature.

Sincerely yours.

Pressure drop at condenser

Hi friends,

At Evapco documents regarding condensers I read that when a condenser works it has pressure drop during pipes and while it is idle , It has not any pressure drop and pressure of inlet would be same with pressure of outlet.

Would it be possible someone make it clear for me, Why when condenser does not work it has not pressure drop ?

Hitachi RAM-90QH5 possible locked compressor?

$

Hello! Hopefully this is the right place for this...

I'm trying to diagnose a fault with my Hitachi multi split. I have a feeling the compressor might have locked up, but figured a second opinion couldn't hurt.

When the unit tries to start up, the fan runs, and an increasing buzzing is heard from the IPM area as it tries to start and ramp up the compressor. This only about a second after which it cuts off and LEDs 301 and 302 blink twice, suggesting over current.

I've check the compressor windings, and they're all in spec. I've put a DC amp clamp on each phase to the compressor, and when it tries to start up, on two of them it hits about 50-60 amps, on the third it goes over 100 and my amp clamp stops reading before it cuts off again.

Reversing two phases makes no difference - if the compressor itself is moving at all briefly I can't hear it in either direction.

I can't think of anything else to try to diagnose whether its the IPM board or compressor at fault. Could the IPM fail in such a way, that the phases aren't actually rotating and its just dumping the voltage on all three in sync? I have ~320v at the input to the IPM as it starts.

For the fault condition as indicated by the LEDs, the service manual says to replace the IPM board... but then, the same manual never points the finger at the compressor under any circumstance.

Hoping its not the compressor but wishful thinking I suspect... any suggestions welcome!

Stal Mini R59K

Hi Everybody,

We have 1995 model Stal mini R59K. Aprox. Every two months the compressor locked and the system has given the overloaded fault. When we dissambled the compressor we have seen the bearings were damaged and we considered there was a problem about oil system. We maintained the oil pumps and system, and we run, after two months same problem occurs and the oil pressure that the pressure cage show was 5 bar. Is there any experince about this situation and english manual of R59K?

Thanks...

I have a CNC machine that has a Rittal SK 3304.100 mounted on the elec cabinet door, the fans blowing but the air coming out is warm, can someone advise what this could be and how I can get it fixed without a massive call out fee?

Thanks in advance, Jon

TECH Method Troubleshooting Books

Since I retired, I have received numerous inquiries about my books. The heart attack a few years back kinda slowed me down. Seemed like the right time to start taking it easy.

I recently made arrangements with my daughter and son in law to distribute the books. For those who are interested, they are now available at ebay.com. Just type in "TECH Method Troubleshooting Books".
